Welcome to our website! As we have the ability to list over one million items on our website (our selection changes all of the time), it is not feasible for a company our size to record and playback the descriptions on every item on our website. However, if you have a disability we are here to help you. Please call our disability services phone line at 337-407-8000 during regular business hours and one of our kind and friendly personal shoppers will help you navigate through our website, help conduct advanced searches, help you choose the item you are looking for with the specifications you are seeking, read you the specifications of any item and consult with you about the products themselves. There is no charge for the help of this personal shopper for anyone with a disability. Finally, your personal shopper will explain our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service, and help you place an order if you so desire.

Our Story

Mr. Herbert Brown opened Brown’s Furniture in 1939. The Opelousas location was first, and stores in Ville Platte, Baton Rouge and Lafayette soon followed. During the 1940’s, Wayne Gilmore and R.P. Walker became partners with Mr. Brown and their partnership lasted many years.

Then in July of 1962, 18 year old Jasper Fontenot was hired, and his first day on the job included working in the warehouse. It wasn’t long before he join the sales team, and in 1978 after being the top salesman and eventually the store manager in Ville Platte, Mr. Fontenot became a partial owner of the business. Mr. Fontenot and his family are now the exclusive owners of Brown’s. With 4 stores in business throughout Louisiana, including Opelousas, Alexandria, Ville Platte and Eunice, it is not at all unusual to find Mr. Fontenot on the sales floor working with customers. Jody Fontenot, his son, is seen most frequently in the Opelousas location but spends time in all of the stores to keep his fingers on the pulse of the business.

We would love to see you at one of our 4 locations.
